My name is Walter. I married
Sandy (nee Thompson, later Hall) at Bulawayo Methodist Church in Bulawayo
Zimbabwe on the 19th. September 1998. We emigated to the UK in 2000 because
of the political climate in Zimbabwe, now living in a village called Keelby, near
Grimsby in the north east corner of Lincolnshire (Humberside). I started bowling in
1975 mainly in Zimbabwe and South Africa, being heavily involved with
the Zimbabwe Blind Bowlers Association as a coach, winning a Gold Medal in the World
Blind Bowlers Tournament in Leicester UK in September 1980 for my blind bowler Des Chandler
who now works for the Sussex Police as a switch board operator.
In 1971 my first wife
( who later became a victim of cancer ) and I plus 4 young children
emigrated to then Rhodesia which later became Zimbabwe, what a lovely
country to spend nearly 30 years of one's life, it was devastating to leave a
wonderful country. Sometime after the passing of my first wife I met
another wonderful person, my wife Sandy, who had never been off the African
Continent before. We arrived in September 2000, even with the inclement
weather Sandy loves it here, all my family have since returned to the UK
but my wife Sandy still has a daughter living in Bulawayo.
